Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a motion for discovery on Thursday to investigate the Obama administration in relation to thousands of work permits that he claims have already been issued to undocumented immigrants despite the fact that the president’s actions were blocked in a federal court.

“In an apparent attempt to quickly execute President Obama’s unlawful, unconstitutional amnesty plan, the Obama administration appears to have already been issuing expanded work permits, in direct contradiction to what they told a federal judge previously in this litigation,” said Paxton in a press release. “The circumstances behind this must be investigated, and the motion we seek would help us determine to what extent the administration might have misrepresented the facts in this case.”

Texas leads a coalition of 26 states that sued to stop the implementation of the president’s executive actions, which were blocked through an injunction by a federal court last month.

The president’s actions are intended to offer a relief to approximately 5 million undocumented immigrants. The first one would expand the deferred action program for undocumented youth (DACA) implemented in 2012 by allowing an additional number of "dreamers" to apply for a protection from deportation and a work permit. The second one, known as DAPA, would allow parents of American citizens or residents to apply for the same protections.

Paxton claims the Obama administration has already granted tens of thousands of work permits to beneficiaries of the expansion of DACA.
