Five undocumented youth and one ally arrested at Capitol
Just outside the halls of Congress, which remain devoid of definitive action on DACA, a group of youth put their bodies on the line to call for a clean Dream Act.
Five undocumented youth and one ally were arrested Thursday during a peaceful sit-in at an intersection near the Capitol Building. The demonstration was the culmination of the two-week-long Walk to Stay Home, in which 11 undocumented youth and allies, representing the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States, marched 250 miles from New York to Washington, D.C., calling for a clean Dream Act.
The march, organized by the Seed Project of Movimiento Cosecha, defines a clean Dream Act as legislation that would provide protection and a pathway to citizenship for current DACA recipients and DACA-eligible youth without criminalizing other members of the U.S. undocumented community.
The six walkers who were arrested were released soon after they were taken away in a van by Capitol Hill police.
