The hustle and bustle of modern life can easily disconnect us from our original environment and lead us to forget the powerful impact of nature in our well-being, both physically and emotionally.

In the beginning, humans lived immersed in wooded mountains, surrounded by the ocean, and made their way among rivers. After losing our 'paradisiacal connection', as I like to call that primordial state, human start to get sick, attending to the demands of a system that seems insatiable. Now, there are more than 10 million people suffering from depression, anxiety, stre, skin rashes, metabolic disorders, among other ailments. We are living in a world where there is almost no connection to spirituality and where people strive beyond their capabilities to meet social demands. Science today only confirms what our ancestors already knew: contact with nature is necessary to feel good.

Reconnecting with our natural environment

In an increasingly urbanized and technological world, it's easy to lose sight of our connection with nature. We spend most of our time indoors, surrounded by concrete, steel, and artificial lights.

However, this disconnection is not good for our health and happiness. Scientific studies have shown that spending time in nature has numerous benefits for mental and physical health. Nature has a calming and restorative effect on our minds.

Exposure to natural environments has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Even shorts walks in the park or contemplating a natural landscape from the window can improve our mood and increase feelings of well-being. In addition to mental benefits, connecting with nature also has positive impacts on our physical health.

Being in contact with nature promotes cardiovascular health, reduces blood pressure and strengthens the immune system. Nature is also perfect for meditation, contemplation and reflection. Whether admiring a sunrise over the ocean, listening to birdsong in the forest, or contemplating the immensity of the mountains, the majesty of nature reminds us of our connection to something larger than ourselves. This connection can provide comfort, inspiration, and a sense of purpose in life.

Practices to connect with nature

Fortunately, there are many ways to incorporate nature into our daily lives, even if we live in urban environments. To begin this path of reconnection, we must be attentive to its beauty, observe it, and appreciate how grand it is.

Saturated with so many responsibilities and tasks, we forget the essentials of life. We do not realize the beauty that surrounds us, such as the singing of birds, the vibrant colors of butterflies, or the freshness of the oxygen provided by the trees. Observing the nature around us, we can dedicate a few minutes to walking; this will not only benefit us physically but also psychologically.

You can take a few minutes to hike, walk, or run. We must start enjoying reading, meals, leisure, meditation, and other outdoor activities. Another good idea is to cultivate plants in the garden at home, on the balcony, or take care of small plants inside our house. We must never forget that nature connects us with our origins and it remains indispensable to experience joy and well-being. Our physical and mental health will be better if we reconnect with the natural, remembering that is something greater than us.
