The School Reform Commission (SRC) released Thursday their evaluation of Dr. William R. Hite Jr., the superintendent of the Philadelphia School District.

Overall, it was a favorable review for the 2013-14 school year.

Hite received a 'proficient' rating in five out of six categories, and 'distinguished' praise for district operations and financial management. Of the SRC's four ranking criteria, "distinguished" is the highest next to "proficient."

Hite, who receives a $300,000 annual salary, declined consideration for a performance bonus, citing the district financial constraints.

The SRC commented on the report:

The 2013-14 school year was a year of sacrifice for The School District of Philadelphia; thousands of positions were eliminated and 24 schools were closed. Surviving this year was possible due to Dr. Hite’s strong leadership as well as the commitment and hard work of teachers, administrators, families and students who gave more and made do with less to keep Philadelphia’s schools together. Noting these circumstances, Dr. Hite has declined to be considered for the 2013-14 year-end performance compensation to which he is eligible by contract. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Hite for his exceptional work which, in any other context, would merit performance compensation.
