Lewis Katz, co-owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, died last night in a plane crash that killed 6 others outside of Boston, according to reports from the New York Times.

Katz, 72, boarded flight headed to Atlantic City that was due to take off Saturday night at Hanscom Air Force Base, but ran off the runway and burst into flames, killing everyone on board.  

Last Tuesday, Katz and his business partner, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest, bid $88 million to take control over the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Daily News and the three websites associated with the papers, including philly.com. Previously, the partners owned less than half of the company's shares.
