'Por su amor': Sting sings in Spanish
Grammy-nominated musician and producer Martin Kierszenbaum wrote the Spanish lyrics of the song, included in the album 'The Bridge'
For Latino fans of The Police used to singing aloud hits like “Roxanne” and “Message in a bottle” in English, knowing that Sting has dared to sing in Spanish again means a lot. The legendary British singer was inspired by the captivating views of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to release a video featuring the lyrics of “Por su amor,” a translation of the song “For her love,” included in his latest album.
In the video, Sting leaves a camera filming the charming peace of the ocean, and over the images are the Spanish lyrics of the love song inspired by the nature of the environment. The singer premiered Spanish version at the recent Lo Nuestro awards gala.
Grammy-nominated musician and producer Martin Kierszenbaum wrote the Spanish lyrics. He also co-produced the album The Bridge, which includes the translated song. The version "Por su amor” also features female choirs by Hannah Brier, guitar arrangements by Dominic Miller and Kierszenbaum himself playing the keyboards.
As with the rest of the songs on the album, “Por su amor” was mixed by Robert Orton and mastered by Gene Grimaldi at the Oasis Mastering studios in Los Angeles.
Sting, the winner of 17 Grammys, has an extensive background singing in several languages. The first references of him singing in Spanish date back to 1987, with the release of the single “Nada como el sol,” which also includes a version in Portuguese.

The chorus of the song is as follows in English: “(For the love), among the clouds without money to cross. (For the love), paint his name on a tram. (For the love), traveling to Mars he would do without thinking. (For the love), meanings would find. Which is what I would not try. A man, overcome, the deepest fears of him, which often betray.”
Featuring 13 songs, The Bridge is the British pop star's 15th studio album. It was published in November 2021 by the label A&M Records.
The album was composed when his 2020 tour was stopped for six weeks in Toronto, Canada due to the pandemic. During that time, Sting set up a makeshift studio and began writing down his concerns. The uncertainty due to the health crisis, as well as the loss of his best friend and tour manager Billy Francis, inspired him to create most of the songs.
“These songs are between one place and another, between one state of mind and another, between life and death, between pandemics. We are all stuck in the middle of something, we need a bridge," said the singer after its release. Amid so much change, “Por su amor” was a breath of fresh air when sung in Spanish.
