"It's a big deal for a lot of people in this city to have a star of this caliber on a bill that is already star-studded with the likes of Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Carlos Santana and The Killers. This is going to make something that is already incredible... even more incredible. It's all about us coming back together," said de Blasio.
The concert is being organized by music producer Clive Davis with Live Nation.
In addition to musicians, comedians and presenters such as Jimmy Fallon, Gayle King and Don Lemon are expected to participate. The bulk of the tickets will be free for citizens, as long as they can prove they have received the COVID-19 vaccine. The event will be a test of a new incentive for immunization in the city, and at the same time, it is an attempt to reactivate the local economy and tourism.
Maluma and Carlos Santana will be in charge of providing the Latin touch to the reopening concert of New York City in a week that encourages cultural and leisure activities across all five boroughs of NYC, such as outdoor movie screenings, public art and restaurant promotions. "We love NYC" will also be broadcast on CNN.
