The new musical, Once Upon A One More Time, produced by Tony winners James L. Nederlander and Hunter Arnold, will hit the stage next Summer.

Directed and choreographed by Keone and Mari Madrid (Karate Kid), the show will mix characters from classic fairy tales such as Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid and others with hits from Britney Spears' extensive and award-winning musical catalog, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

According to a representative of the production, all the songs in the show are licensed through its publishers with the approval of the composers.

Described as a revisionist fairy tale, Once Upon A One More Time is a "musical adventure about reclaiming your own happily ever after," the production mentioned.

Initially, the musical was to play at Chicago's James M. Nederlander Theatre in 2019, but its premiere was delayed to Spring 2020. In March, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down theaters across the country, and producers decided to cancel the show's Chicago premier. Now, the show will see the stage on Broadway.

Although Spears has not spoken out about the actual musical, she gave a statement in 2019 where she claimed to be very excited about the Chicago premier.

"I'm so excited to have a musical featuring my songs — especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters I grew up with, love and adore," she said in a statement at the time.

Once Upon A One More Time had its world premiere in December 2021 at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington D.C., where it extended its limited seating from Jan. 3 to Jan. 9 due to demand. The play received reviews of all kinds, including some who decried the story's lack of subtlety, as reported by Variety.
