Three Democrats were elected to the PA Supreme Court Thursday in a historic election.

Superior Court Judges David Wecht and Christine Donohue and Philadelphia Judge Kevin Dougherty took Philadelphia county by a landslide, and the state by a healthy margin. The Associated Press declared them the winners late Thursday. Commonwealth Court Judge Anne Covey, Superior Court Judge Judy Olson and Adams County Judge Mike George trailed behind, followed in the deep by third-party candidate Philadelphia Judge Paul Panepinto.

Having three new Democrats means that blue will be the majority on the seven-person Supreme Court for at least a decade.

It was reported earlier this week that the competitive red-versus-blue race cost over $11.5 million, setting a statewide record.
