A Latina-owned business is celebrating its national debut at Target just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month
The popular clothing brand, JZD was born in Brownsville, Texas, in 2016 by spouses Jennifer Serrano and Veronica Vazquez. The goal for the duo was to promote sustainable and fashionable clothing while also representing the Hispanic community.
Now, six years later, the business has grown into a phenomenal and historical venture that is available at Target stores all over the country.
However, it wasn't an easy start for the two of them. Vasquez quit her job in order to focus solely on their clothing business and Serrano had to put her studies on hold.
The power couple began their business during the 2016 presidential election when the two felt that Latinos were being torn apart by the former administration.
They began launching an ETSY shop years ago with the idea to promote the talent and culture of Latinos. Their vibrant designs and gender neutral apparel caught the attention of thousands of customers, including countless celebrities, such as Camila Mendez, Zoe Saldana, and Jessica Alba.

“We knew that we wanted to include products that would make our community feel a sense of nostalgia so we created items that remind us of our culture and of those moments shared with our familia,” the business owners said to Hip Latina.
JZD clothing is now available at Target as of the beginning of September, with earrings, T-shirts, and notepads that pay an homage to traditional Latino phrases such as, “Chula,” and empowering words like, “My ancestors are always cheering me on,” “Luchadora,” and “Latino power.”
“We really have no words to describe how happy and grateful we feel to experience this,” they said.
Other Latino-owned companies that have also been picked up by Target are, Rizos Curls, a thriving hair care company, and Luna Magic, a makeup enterprise founded by makeup guru sisters, Mabel and Shaira Frias.
