Argentine filmmaker and feminist activist Albertina Carri will be awarded the 2022 Zinegoak Award at this year's Bilbao LGBT Film and Performing Arts Festival. The award will be presented to Carri at the festival's opening gala to be held on Feb. 28 at Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao.

On Sunday, Feb. 27, the day before the opening gala, the festival will screen one of her films, Las hijas del fuego, at the Sala BBK. In addition, several of her works will be screened at BilbaoArte from March 1 to 4.

For Alaitz Arenzana, artistic director of the festival, Carri is "one of the most influential voices of a whole new generation of Latin American creators. Her work is a continuous exploration of her own languages and ways of showing everything that the dominant gazes pretend to leave out of the field."

Carri has a long career as a director, screenwriter, producer and feminist activist. The recognition of her work at the festival can be seen in a section specifically dedicated to the director's work.

In addition to making more than half a dozen short films and the features No quiero volver a casa in 2000, Los rubios in 2003 and Cuatreros in 2017, Carri has also created programs for television and is the founder of the Asterisco International LGBT Film Festival.
