Over the past five years, AL DÍA has held an annual celebration of Hispanic heritage and the impact Hispanics are having in our city, and have had over America’s 200-plus year history.

This year, AL DÍA will be taking the sixth annual celebration to a new level thanks to a unique multimedia partnership with 6ABC, who has been a critical sponsor in each year of the event’s history.

On Friday, Sept. 24, AL DÍA and 6ABC will partner to present the 2021 AL DÍA Archetypes: Ambassador Manuel Torres Awards gala at the prestigious Union League of Philadelphia.

The 6ABC/AL DÍA partnership will aim to bring this program to households across the nation and around the world, through linear television, 6abc.com, and the numerous apps on connected TV, including Roku, Apple TV and Chromecast, on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 5pm.

“We are confident this is going to be a game-changer, for the city, for AL DIA [and] for ABC,” wrote Hernán Guaracao, AL DÍA Founder and CEO.

The event will serve as a way to recognize the contributions of some of the most accomplished Latinos in our region in 10 key areas: public service, education, corporate, non-profit, health, entrepreneurship, sports, music, performing arts, and media.

The individuals honored represent the best reflections of excellence among Americans of Latino descent.

“I have worked with Hernán and AL DÍA for years now and we’re thrilled to partner with AL DÍA to take the next step in creating a program that will recognize the important contribution of the Hispanic community to our city and nation,” said Bernie Prazenica, 6ABC president & general manager.

The annual event will be rebranded to honor Ambassador Manuel Torres, the first ambassador of present-day Colombia (then Nueva Granada). His appointment by U.S. President James Monroe represented the first U.S. recognition of a former Spanish colony’s independence.

More than 200 years after his death, AL DÍA will celebrate Torres’ spirit and memory, while giving the celebration of Hispanic Heritage in the U.S. a new meaning.

Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated in the United States since 1988, when President Ronald Reagan signed a law that officially recognized the presence of Latinos in the country and acknowledged the substantial contributions they have made to U.S. society since the nation’s inception.

More details about the 2021 AL DÍA Archetypes: Ambassador Manuel Torres Awards event will be made available in the coming months.
