Unitil Corporation, a company that supplies natural gas and electricity in New England, recently announced the election of Anne Alonzo as a new member of its Board of Directors at its 2023 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.

Thomas P. Meissner Jr., Unitil’s chairman, chief executive officer and president, pointed out:

We are delighted that Anne Alonzo has been elected to the Unitil Board.

Alonzo’s Career

Alonzo, who was elected to an initial two-year term, served through August 2021 as C-Suite Executive and chief sustainability officer at Corteva Agriscience, a Fortune 500 publicly traded seed and agricultural chemicals company.

With 30 years of experience, Alonzo has also held executive leadership positions at two other Fortune 500 companies, such as Amoco and Kraft Foods Inc. (now Mondelez International Inc.), while serving as a leader at four U.S. federal agencies:

  1. U.S. Department of Agriculture
  2. U.S. Department of State
  3. U.S. Department of Commerce
  4. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Likewise, she was part of the leading team of two non-profit organizations: American Egg Board (as its CEO) and the National Council of Foreign Trade (as its SVP).

I've navigated a diverse and fantastic career in the corporate, public and nonprofit sectors and now provide organizations and boards insights on strategy, advancing global ESG/corporate responsibility as well as mitigating risk and crisis management, environmental sustainability, regulatory, marketing, international trade, external affairs and public policy,” posted Alonzo in her LinkedIn profile.

A Brilliant Present

Alonzo, who also provides advisory services to various companies on climate change and regenerative agriculture, currently serves at the following companies:

  • Member of the board of directors of PotlatchDeltic Corporation, a leading forest real estate investment trust company
  • Trustee of the Pan American Development Foundation, an NGO focused on vulnerable populations in Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Board member of Feeding America, the largest charity in the United States

Anne is a proven leader with an exceptional background in environmental sustainability, regulatory, public policy, marketing, legal expertise and ESG that will enhance and preserve the Board’s existing strong skill set,” noted Meissner Jr.

Alonzo, who earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and a Juris Doctorate from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Kent College of Law, is also a member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association (LCDA), the National Association of Corporate Directors (NCDA) and the Women's Business Collaborative (WCB).

I have expertise in gaining market access and developing private/government partnerships across North America, Asia, EMEA, and Latin America. As often the senior most woman of color/Latina, I’ve proudly helped advance DEI goals and metrics across all organizations,” Alonzo highlights on her resume.
