Recently, Mondee Holdings Inc. — an Austin, Texas based travel technology company and travel marketplace — announced the appointment of Jesus Portillo as their new Chief Financial Officer.
Founded in 2011, the company has expanded to operate 17 offices internationally, including Canada, India, Thailand, and Greece. By their measure, they process over 50 million daily searches for various leisure industry members and companies in their network.
Portillo will be taking the role as his predecessor, Dan Figenshu, departs. Figenshu acted in a mentorship role for Portillo, preparing the latter for public company life and in establishing their accounting and finance operations through his tenure, beginning in September 2021.
Figenshu also led the company as it became a publicly traded company in 2022.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jesus, a seasoned global finance executive, to the Mondee family to lead the finance function of the company during our new phase of growth. Jesus brings a proven track record of delivering results and creating value, and we are excited to work with him to accelerate Mondee's sustainable growth. We look forward to Jesus’ leadership and experience," said Mondee's Chairman, CEO, and Founder, Prasad Gundumogula, in a statement.
Portillo holds over 20 years of experience working within the finance industry, having served as CFO for multiple other companies, the latest of which was a three-year tenure with ThriveDX, a digital workforce development company, where he built their financial team from the ground up.
His other work includes numerous senior financial positions within multiple subsidiaries of WPP PLC, a British multinational communications company with yearly revenue of over $17 billion.
Working under their subsidiary Young & Rubicam (now VML Y&R) between 1998 to 2017, Portillo first worked as Finance Director, then Regional Operations Controller for Latin America, and finally CFO, before his departure to work as President of Unijorge and Universidade Veiga de Almeida from 2018 to 2019.
"I am excited to join Mondee, a truly unique organization that is transforming the travel industry with extraordinary, disciplined, and profitable growth," said Portillo, in a statement.
"I look forward to strengthening the company's finance teams and functions, assisting in the integration of its ambitious and accretive M&A strategy, and working with Prasad and the Mondee team to build on the company's momentum," he concluded.
Portillo earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Universidad de Sevilla, and later in his career earned an Executive MBA degree at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
