The live-action animated film of the famous cat and mouse duo Tom & Jerry will hit the theaters and the streaming platform HBO Max this Friday. The lead actors are Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Carrie) and Mexican-American Michael Peña (Ant-Man, American Hustle).

A mix of real characters and locations with 2D animation of the animal characters, the film aims to attract family audiences to theaters, appealing to young and not so young, since the animated couple has become an archetype of children's animation after eighty years on screen.

The original series created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for Metro-Goldwyn Mayer now returns with Warner to continue adding to the list of cartoons turned into live-action films, as was the case with Looney Tunes, Garfield, or Sonic the Hedgehog. There was already a previous movie in 1992, but it was animated like the series or some of its spin-offs.

It was directed by Tim Story (Fantastic Four), produced by Chris DeFaria (The LEGO Movie 2), and written by Kevin Costello, all three of whom had participated in children's audiovisual projects before, this time they wanted to secure the release with a lot of Latino talent.

On one side is singer Ozuna, who makes a cameo as a waiter as he continues to expand his acting career and pays homage to the cartoons he says he watched growing up as a child. These drawings are marked by a tone that now seems to us, despite the punches and rivalry, even innocent and familiar.

Another of the appearances is that of reggatonero Nicky Jam, who will play the role of Butch, a New York stray cat with whom Tom must join in his mission to stop Jerry before ruining the wedding of the century in the NYC hotel where he has settled and for which the main actors work.

A light-hearted comedy of entanglements that promises to revive the most classic family-friendly slapstick sequences.
