On Feb. 3, the nominations for the 78th Golden Globes awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were presented the actors Taraji P. Henson and Sarah Jessica Parker. The final event will be held on Feb. 28 and be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made the event not only available on streaming services, but also changed the format of many of the pictures up for awards as big production companies decided to cancel their 2020 bets. Netflix has 42 nominations — 22 for movies and 20 for series. Its two big hits are the dramas Mank (David Fincher) and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Aaron Sorkin), starring Sacha Baron Cohen, who has three nominations as an actor.

They are closely followed by the triumph of The Crown, the third season of Ozark, and The Queen's Gambit. Next on the list is Amazon Studios with seven nominations, followed by Focus Features, Searchlight Pictures and Sony Pictures Classics.

Also noteworthy is the record of Guatemala, which for the first time has a film competing for "Best Foreign Film" with La Llorona. This rendition of the folkloric myth by renowned director Jayro Bustamante, also served to showcase the talent of María Mercedes Coroy, known for her role in Ixcanul (2015).

After a Grammy, Tony and Pulitzer, Lin-Manuel Miranda again also tops the charts as King Midas of musicals, especially for Hamilton, nominated for his performance, and as a successful Latino in Hollywood. The film is also up for "Best Comedy/Musical."

Another novelty this year is the rise of female directors. Three out of five women are up for "Best Director," including Emerald Fennell (A Promising Young Woman), Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) and Regina King (One Night in Miami), along with the aforementioned Sorkin and Fincher.
