The United States is not immune to the plague of female brutality and sexual assaults.

On the anniversary of Vanessa Guillén's murder, singer Karina Daza wanted the whole world to be aware of this social problem as well. She has done so by uniting fourteen women in a powerful bilingual track called "Mujeres Will Riot" that pays homage to female strength and is a call for solidarity.

The song is an indie pop ballad in which she has also counted with the collaboration of Latin Grammy winner Gaby Moreno. The video was directed by Oceanna Colgan and also pays tribute to great Latinas such as Joan Baez, Frida Kahlo, Celia Cruz and Rita Moreno.

"Mujeres Will Riot" was born out of Karina, her own experience and awareness of what had been happening at ICE, including forced sterilizations, as well as everything that happened at Fort Hood with Vanessa Guillén:

"I was initially inspired to write it when I heard Vanessa Guillén's story. Then I learned about the sexual assaults (including unwanted sterilizations) that occur in ICE detention centers, and it became painfully clear that women - and especially Latinas - are abused, beaten, deported and even killed before they can testify against their attackers. This song is a response to all of that."

"I want to bring attention to this struggle and remind people that we need to continue to demand change and hold abusers accountable. People love to talk about women's rights during Women's History Month, but the fight doesn't end just because the month of March does," added Karina Daza.

"When I heard Karina's amazing song, I knew I would be part of something really special. It was such an honor to produce "Mujeres Will Riot" and get all these outstanding musicians, singers and engineers on board. It's the first time I've been part of a production made 100% by women and it was an inspiring journey to say the least. Everyone has thrown themselves into this show and I am so proud of the result. I can't wait for the world to hear this anthem," shared Gaby Moreno.

The song is intended as a feminist anthem against gender violence and aims to get more people to point out the problem so that laws can be changed and justice can be served on those responsible for so many assaults. Ultimately it aims to empower.

The proceeds will go entirely to those who point out the unjust and inhumane situation at ICE, specifically Project South, who work to close detention centers and assist in reporting rape.

The result is a powerful collective piece that functions as a mosaic of women for women.
