As expected, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello would both transform their breakup into a song. On Tuesday, Nov. 30, Mendes announced his new song "It’ll Be Okay" through social media. Less than three weeks after the news of his breakup went public, the singer put his feelings into a new song. After two years in a relationship, Mendes has been the first of the two to address the change through music.

Through a joint statement Mendes and Cabello announced their separation to their followers, although also affirming that affection remains and they would be together but in another way.

After some rumors that commented that speculated Mendes as "responsible for the breakup," the singer released his new single "It'll Be Okay", a heartfelt ballad that talks about a breakup, the beginning of a new solo stint and considers a relationship in the future.

"If you tell me you're leaving, I'll make it easy, it'll be ok. If we can't stop the bleeding, we don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay. I will love you either way."

Despite these rumors, a source close to the couple told ET that "they realized they are in totally different places in their lives right now, and it was time to end things."

"They are both sad about the split, but are doing their best to take care of themselves, keep busy and surround themselves with loved ones," the source continued.
