“Afghan women on the run”: solidarity music to help persecuted women in Afghanistan flee to Spain
The show in Barcelona, scheduled for next April 30, include the performances of DJ Owey, DJ Missouri, Suzanna Abellán, MaBreeZee, Ms. Obama and Marga Mbande
A group of activists in Spain couldn’t stand still in the face of the repression and persecution suffered by women in Afghanistan. That’s why they founded the collective “Afghan women on the run”, moved by the dramatic reality that women have suffered since the Taliban retook power last August, after the departure of the last US troops from the country.
To raise funds for their activities, they teamed up with the "Dj's for Change" collective and will organize a concert in Barcelona. It will be on April 30 at the legendary Sidecar, in an act that will start at 6:00 p.m. and will feature performances by DJ Owey, DJ Missouri, Suzanna Abellán, MaBreeZee, Ms. Obama and Marga Mbande. They do not belong to any institution or foundation, so the promotion of the event is also in their own hands.
"Afghan women on the run" work directly via WhatsApp with affected women, who tell them their experiences first-hand. They are forced to leave the country because their lives are in danger in most cases. The activists accompany them in the bureaucratic management necessary to obtain visas by land and passports, or in the procedures that allow them to fly to Spain.
It is a long and complicated process, but they have already managed to bring several women to Spain, something that drives them to continue with their activity. For this purpose, they have the support of the NGO "Un gest de calor", which manages the financial donations that arrive for these families. The money is used to pay for women's stays in Islamabad or Tehran, as well as their flights to Spain.
They are all volunteers without intermediaries, so all the funds raised are used to cover the travel expenses of women fleeing Islamist repression. Sharing their project is a great help to continue supporting Afghan women.

Currently, the Taliban are imposing restrictive laws, especially against women, which are reminiscent of the worst times of the regime they imposed in Afghanistan in the 1990s, and which lasted until the US occupation of 2001.
Despite international criticism and pressure, the "Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice" has announced new vetoes in recent weeks. The most notable were the prohibition of being able to study and work, for which millions of Afghan girls saw their careers and dreams buried.
In addition, in December women were banned from traveling alone across the country for distances of more than 70 km, and the measure was increased last week with a ban on women traveling abroad alone. They are also prohibited from going to health centers without the accompaniment of a man.
For the Taliban, it is not about restrictions on women's freedom, but the "protection of their honor".
