In the boom of music videos Latin music is experiencing in 2022, Ricky Martin couldn't be left out. However, unlike the abundance of songs about love and passion, the Puerto Rican singer released a deep ballad, talking about heartbreak. Accompanied by the Mexican pop rock band Reik, alongside the voice of Jesús Alberto Navarro, Martin published a black and white music video where he returns to his musical roots.

“I am very grateful that he put aside reggaeton and finally brought us back the music that made us fans of him. This is how I recognize Ricky Martin,” celebrated one of his fans after the release of the single on April 15.

The singer, winner of multiple Grammys and Latin Grammys, and one of the greatest Latin international figures, released a cry of yearning alongside the solemn chords of Reik. It is a slow and deep song, with no rhythmic changes, where the sadness is due to the absence of a special person.

As they sing, “it is easy to love, but difficult to forget.” The joint performance of the singer and the band takes place on a deserted and paradisiacal beach, where a woman, to whom they dedicate the lyrics, appears walking on the sand. Out of frustration, the Reik singer ends up throwing a classical guitar onto the seashore.

It is a song composed by multiple hands. Its lyrics and melodies were written by Ricky Martin, Pablo Preciado, Pedro Capó, Ignacio “Kiko” Cibrían, Julio Ramírez Juvelo, Mauricio Rengifo and Andrés Torres (better known as Cali and El Dandee).

In Martin's own words, it is “a very special song that I love.” He also highlighted the return to his roots. 

“It is very romantic and it takes me to the beginning of my career. The funny thing is that we recorded it at the beginning of the pandemic and I thought it had to come out at the right time, not before or after, and finally here it is,” he said.

For many of his fans, the wait was worth it. Other fans described it as a "beautiful song," and asked him to continue in this mood. Regarding the feature of the Mexican band, the Latin singer commented: “I really wanted to work with Reik, they are an extremely talented group and both they and I hope they receive it with the same love with which we did it. I'm eager to sing it live."

Reik’s singer, Jesús Navarro, said that “for us, Ricky is one of the most complete and enormous artists in terms of talent and range, and we have been his fan for many years. To be able to collaborate with him for the first time is something very special for us and even more so with a song as honest as this one.”

The video for "A veces bien y a veces mal," was directed by Costa Rican director Daniela Vesco and filmed on a beach in Puerto Rico. The leading actress is Spanish model Ángela Ponce, who was the first transgender woman to be crowned Miss Spain in 2018.

Among Ricky Martin's upcoming live performances, the concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, stand out. There will be two shows, on July 22 and 23, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
