The Urban League of Philadelphia and Lyft are partnering up to help provide Philadelphians with more economic opportunities across the region.

The partnership was announced on Nov. 12 after the two organizations recently begun collaborating through the Urban League’s Entrepreneurship Center, which provides STEM programs, job training, and entrepreneurship skills.

The partnership will be multi-faceted and help connect more people of color and those from underserved communities with access to affordable, convenient, and reliable transportation options.

“Since launching in 2015, Lyft has delivered more access to transportation to more parts of Philadelphia, than ever before,” Andrew Woolf, General Manager of Lyft Pennsylvania, said.

He added that nearly 70 percent of Lyft rides start or end in historically underserved or low-income communities is one of the reasons why there are goals to provide greater access for all communities of Philadelphians.

In just a few short years, Lyft has established itself as the fastest growing rideshare company in the U.S. with more than 23 million users globally and 1.4 million drivers.

The Urban League of Philadelphia, founded in 1917, is the state’s leading organization dedicated to providing African Americans and other people of color with direct service programs to promote economic independence.

Together, the two organizations believe they can continue to build upon their long-time efforts of helping increase economic opportunities for all Philadelphians.

“This partnership is a continuation of the great work the two organizations have done previously,” Woolf said.
