Honoring engagement and advocacy in the Latino community
This year’s La Justicia Award goes to Dr. Carmen Febo-San Miguel, Executive Director and CEO of Taller Puertorriqueño.
The 17th Annual La Justicia Award Ceremony will be held at Philadelphia City Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Jim Kenney will deliver opening remarks at the event.
The award is presented by the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania (HBAPA). Jacqueline Romero, President of the HBAPA, said the group is honoring Febo-San Miguel for her many years of service through promoting the health of Philadelphia’s Latino community as a physician, as well as showcasing Latino arts and culture in North Philadelphia with Taller Puertorriqueño.

“Dr. Carmen Febo-San Miguel has exemplified everything that embodies the La Justicia Award — dedicated public service, commitment, and leadership in the advancement of Latino interests and civil rights,” Romero said. “The Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania is excited to honor her decades of engagement and advocacy.”
The HBAPA is also recognizing Febo-San Miguel for her commitment to aiding Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria ravaged the island in September. Attendees of the award ceremony are asked to contribute a suggested donation of $20 to hurricane relief fund Unidos Pa’ Puerto Rico.
Winner of the Food Network’s “Chef Wanted” series Chef Ted Torres of Coa Catering will cater the event.
