Whose side are you on Mr. Untermeyer?
Can a former republican candidate for district attorney truly represent democratic ideals? That's a question surrounding Michael Untermeyer after an old add was uncovered recently.
An opponent located the add and accused it of having "racist" and "sexist" themes.
Michael Untermeyer, now one of the many running on the Democratic ticket in the primary for district attorney, formerly ran as a Republican but changed after stating that his run then made him an "outsider."
His campaign this year has taken a different tone as he runs with 6 other democrats - some leaning to the far left.
The ad that was for his campaign for City Council in 2011, features a sleeping council that only wakes up for happy hour drinks and flirtation.

Having run as a Republican in 2011 for the council and for district attorney in 2009, he shocked everyone with his announcement to run as Democrat in the current DA's race.
And not everyone is convinced that Untermeyer is truly on the democratic side.
Credited with uncovering the ad in question, district attorney hopeful Joe Khan had a lot to say to Philadelphia Weekly on the issue. “This not-so-subtly sexist ad that plays on regressive racial stereotypes is not something one would expect to see from a progressive Democrat running in a Democratic Primary, and that’s because Michael Untermeyer isn’t one,” Khan’s camp wrote in a statement to the publication.
But Untermeyer has answered for himself telling Philadelphia Weekly, “I was one of three attorneys to co-found the Domestic Violence Unit in Philadelphia,” Untermeyer added. “I know sexism and racism have no place in our criminal justice system, and thus far I am the only candidate in the race to release a detailed plan on how to make our criminal justice system less discriminatory."
