With the Cherry Blossom festival in full swing this week, we take a look at the Shofuso Japanese house and Garden. Located in Fairmount Park, it is a traditional-style Japanese house and nationally-ranked garden that reflects the history of Japanese culture in Philadelphia, from the 1876 Centennial Exposition to present day. The Shofuso house hosts over 30,000 visitors each year from more than 20 different countries.

Originally part of an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the house was designed and built in Nagoya, Japan by Japanese mid-century modernist architect Junzo Yoshimura in 1953 using traditional materials and techniques. It has been ranked third in the country by the Journal of Japanese gardening last year. Touring through the house takes you back to a time where life was more simple and traditional.
