Comcast holds signing ceremony, celebrating U.S. Army’s birthday
Comcast hosted a ceremony this week to sign a Statement of Support confirming the company’s commitment to the National Guard and Reserve employees.
The event, held in collaboration with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), included a traditional cake cutting with a military sabre in honor of the Army’s 241st birthday and in honor of Flag Day.
Among the speakers were Carol Eggert, vice president of Comcast military and veteran affairs; M. Alex Baird, director employer support for guard & reserve, Honorable Patrick Murphy, under secretary of the army, and Neil Smit, president & CEO of Comcast Cable.
“Sometimes we forget that Philadelphia is the birthplace of the Army, and today is our birthday but also of the Navy, and the Marine Corps… and the Air Force, who are the Army Air Force and they are like little brothers, and each of them were founded here in Philadelphia,” Murphy said.
At the ceremony, Smit received a recognition from Comcast, as well as Penna who was recognized with the Seven Seals Award.
“This award is for her meritorious leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard Reserve,” said Tom Bullock, who hosted the event.
“Comcast NBCUniversal is proud to reaffirm our support for our employees who serve as members of the National Guard and Reserve,” Smit said. “We recognize that these men and women are invaluable both to our company and to our Nation’s defense. We highly value their skills and acknowledge the service and contributions of our Veterans, National Guard Reserve members, and military spouses.”
