Frontier to add 10 new flights out of Philly
Low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines will be adding 10 new destinations to its services out of the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) this spring.
The new flights will roll out starting April 14 and will offer special introductory prices through Aug. 15.
“This is exciting news to passengers in the Philadelphia region,” said PHL CEO Chellie Cameron in a statement. “When competition increases, this typically translates to lower fares and makes flying a more attractive and affordable option. Moreover, travelers will have convenient flights to St. Augustine, which is a new destination from PHL, and Austin, which previously had been served by another carrier.”
The additions will be nonstop services to New Orleans, La., Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina and Indianapolis starting April 14; Nashville, Tenn., Cleveland and St. Augustine, Fla. starting April 15; Cincinnati on May 13; Austin, Texas on May 15; and Kansas City, Mo. and Milwaukee starting on June 2.
Frontier compares their fares to what they call the “industry average fare.” On paper, Frontier’s flights are substantially cheaper. For example, one way flights to Austin would cost $99, St. Augustine would be $69 and New Orleans $84.
However with the low fare, the services do not provide amenities which are common on most major airlines. For example, their economy fares do not include assigned seating and payment is required to bring anything more than a personal item.
The new flights out of PHL are part of a new expansion strategy by Frontier Airlines. They plan to add 42 new non-stop services throughout the U.S.
