In a press conference Tuesday, Mayor Michael Nutter announced that the Made In America concert over labor day weekend broke all previous attendance records.

Organizers reported over 65,000 attendees on Saturday and over 64,000 on Sunday, for a total of over 130,000.

It was the two-day festival's fourth time returning to the Ben Franklin Parkway, and everything was bigger. Five stages, more than any year before, lined the parkway. Beyonce headlined (again) alongside the Weeknd. The concert streamed live to over 45 countries, making Philadelphia "a world stage," Nutter said.

In 2012 when the event was first discussed, there was a lot of hesitation about whether or not the city could handle an event of this magnitude. Nutter recalled criticisms that Philly wasn't "a city that could do big events well," but this year's record turnout shows that Made In America is fast becoming tradition.

It wasn't totally a fairytale weekend, however.

Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, two 25-year-olds were struck and killed by a taxi cab just one block north of City Hall. They were from out of town and had reportedly been attending the festival. The Daily News has the details.
