A temporary campground will open up in Fairmount Park as a lower-cost alternative for visitors looking to see Pope Francis during the World Meeting of Families in three weeks.

The "Francis Fields Campground," located at the edge the Brewerytown neighborhood, has room for 16,000 people over the weekend of Sept 26-27. And it'll cost you a lot less than a traditional room, but not by much.

For $199, visitors can stay at the fenced-in campground from Thursday through Monday. To park your car at your campsite, it'll run you an additional $109. Ditto ($99) to park your car overnight in a secure lot near the campgrounds. Looking for the full RV experience? That'll cost you $999, which covers four campers.

The site is about two miles from Eakins Oval where Pope Francis will deliver mass on Sunday, September 27.

Francis Fields will include restrooms, showers, food and beverage vendors, grills, charging stations, and a general store. There will be an around-the-clock team of medical and security personnel, as well as a multilingual information team.

The large-scale event planning company Endless Summer Productions will host and manage the campgrounds.
