Taking a train during the papal weekend? Here is a playlist
Remember the commute in (and out of) Philly the day of the Phillies World Series parade?
I do. The ride was awesome — in every meaning of the word. On the way in, I marveled at the instant camaraderie on SEPTA, everyone was happy and excited and there was a palpable feeling of community. On the way out ... well ... I spent three hours trying to catch either a SEPTA train (upstairs at 30th Street Station) or an Amtrak (downstairs) and by the time I got home (via SEPTA, ultimately) I was wearing a scent that was equal parts exasperation, resignation and other people's sweat.
SEPTA says the Papal weekend (September 26 and 27) train situation will be better this time around. I say, as long I have music of apt ironic comment or delightful coincidence to dance in place to ... I'll be fine. So here are 11 trains songs and one end of the day song for your papal weekend playlist.
1. Curtis Mayfield - People Get Ready
2. Duke Ellington - Take the A Train
3. Tom Waits - Downtown Train
4. The O'Jays - Love Train
5. Cat Stevens - Peace Train
6. Lenny Kravitz - Freedom Train
7. Ozzy Osborne - Crazy Train
8. Soul Asylum - Runaway Train
9. The Clash - Train in Vain
10. Bob Dylan - Slow Train
11. Bob Marley & the Wailers - Stop that Train
And, as promised, the end-of-the-day song from someone who knows Philly....
12. Bon Jovi - Who Says You Can't Go Home
