An Amtrak train has reportedly derailed in Philadelphia on May 12. Tweets from Patrick Murphy give us the first images from within the train. This developing story will be updated as information becomes available. 

Update at 4:42 p.m: The National Transportation Safety Board confirms preliminary data shows Amtrak train speed was over 100 m.p.h. before its derailment.

Update at 4:39 p.m:  Seven people confirmed dead, more than 200 people were injured, and at least eight people are in critical condition after Amtrak train derailment.

Update at 12:32 a.m.: "My thoughts and prayers are with all of those impacted by tonight’s train derailment," Governor Tom Wolf said in the statement he released in response to the derailment. "For those who lost their lives, those who were injured, and the families of all involved, this situation is devastating. I want to sincerely thank our first responders for their brave and quick action. I am closely monitoring the situation and I am in contact with state and local authorities."

Update at 12:20 a.m.: Fire Department has declared the disaster scene is "under control."

Update at 11:50 p.m.: Amtrak issues its third tweet of the night.

Reportedly 10 cars went off the rails, and 238 passengers were on board, plus 5 crew members. More than 50 are reported injured.
