The growing mobile food industry will continue to grow in the City of Brotherly Love thanks to City Council.

Philadelphia City Council recently passed a bill that will make operating a food truck in the city a lot easier.

In February, Councilman Mark Squilla introduced a bill that would update and formalize regulations on food trucks, like an actual definition, zoning permits, etc.

Now, food trucks have their own definition. Food trucks, or mobile food vendors are defined as:

“A self-contained food service operation, located in a readily movable motorized vehicle with wheels or in a vehicle with wheels capable of being towed by a motorized vehicle, designed for the preparation, display and service of food and beverages to patrons, but not including pushcarts.”

Food trucks are now also allowed to operate in private lots (i.e. private catering events).
