Police apprehend alleged accomplice in Alex Guevara shooting
Philadelphia police notified the Guevara family Saturday, Oct. 4 that they have apprehended the alleged accomplice in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Alex Guevara. Guevara was shot to death in the parking lot of the Dell Music Center Aug. 13 while attending a peace concert with a friend.
AL DÍA spoke to Dolly Guevara, Alex's older sister, on Sunday. "The police told us they caught the (alleged) accomplice at his mother's house," she said, "but they didn't give us his name. They also told us he was in violation of his parole."
While the alleged suspect is not believed to be the gunman, Guevara said, the police told her he is the person whose photo was released from the security video at the Dell Center.
Last week AL DÍA ran an editorial questioning the lack of responsiveness to the murder by Philadelphia police, media and citizenry. Social media shares of the editorial evinced both anger and resignation from the city's Latino community toward the indifference the case seemed to elicit.
We will update this story as more details become available.
