City Year Philadelphia holds Opening Day in South Philly
City Year Philadelphia held its Opening Day event on September 19 at South Philadelphia High School.
Junior and senior students from South Philadelphia High School watched corps members take their oath of service and well as a performance by Lincoln University’s Marching Band.
City Year, an nonprofit organization with a focus on education, gathers young people between the ages 17 to 24 to participate in a year of full-time service in the city’s highest-need schools. Wearing their signature red jackets, corps members work in Philadelphia’s public schools every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as tutors, mentors, and role models.
