On Monday, July 10, Irene Caudillo officially began her new role as Kansas City, Kansas Chief of Staff.

In doing so, Caudillo makes history as the first Hispanic woman ever to assume the role. She takes over the role from Dr. Mildred Edwards, who resigned as Chief of Staff back in May.

Caudillo enters into the role following her departure as President & CEO of El Centro, Inc., a social service organization, in which she stood at the helm for nearly 10 years.

“It is an honor to continue the work in our community,” Caudillo said following the announcement.

Throughout her career, Caudillo has filled various roles that have helped serve the community,

Prior roles include serving as Director of Operations at Swope Health Services; Director of Children and Family Services at Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas; and executive director of Youth Opportunities Unlimited.

Caudillo has created multiple children and youth programs for nonprofit organizations, including El Centro and Wyandotte Mental Health Association.

As chief of staff, she will oversee the daily operations of Mayor Tyrone Garner’s Office.

Caudillo is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, and also earned an MPA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

In addition to Caudillo, Garner also recently appointed Steve Williams as a community engagement and welfare advisor.

A 30-year Kansas City, Kansas police veteran and former member of the Kansas City, Kansas Public School Police Department, he will be charge of coordinating activities with community organizations.
