On Sept. 13, 2022, ConocoPhillips, an oil and natural gas company based in Houston, announced that Dennis V. Arriola has joined its board of directors.

Arriola takes on the board position following his departure from his role as CEO for Avangrid Inc. His 28-year history within the energy industry includes serving as executive vice president, group president, vice president of communications and investor relations, and chief sustainability officer at Sempra Energy.

Additionally, he previously worked as regional vice president and general manager of Sempra’s South American operations.

“I’m honored and excited to join the ConocoPhillips Board of Directors. As a Fortune 100 company, ConocoPhillips is a global energy leader working to address the needs of our transitioning world,” Arriola said in a LinkedIn post.

“Under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Ryan Lance and the stewardship of the Board, ConocoPhillips is focused on achieving its operational net-zero emissions ambition while meeting transition pathway demand. I look forward to staying engaged in the energy transition and providing my support to ConocoPhillips,” he continued.

Throughout his career, Arriola has served on the board of several Sempra operating companies, such as the publicly traded Infraestructura Energética Nova in Mexico, the publicly traded Luz del Sur SAA in Peru, and Chilquinta Energía in Chile.

He has also served on the boards of the California Latino Economic Institute, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Edison Electric Institute, Avangrid Inc., and the California Business Roundtable.

“We are pleased to add Dennis to the ConocoPhillips board of directors,” said Ryan Lance, ConocoPhillips chairman and CEO, in a statement. “Dennis brings valuable perspective and expertise in the energy sector, particularly in renewables and low carbon energy.”

“We look forward to his contributions as we deliver on our Triple Mandate of meeting energy transition pathway demand, generating competitive returns on and of capital, and achieving our net-zero emissions ambition,” he continued.

Other notable roles in his career include serving as the chairman, president and CEO of Southern California Gas Co., and both CFO and senior vice president of both San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Co.

Arriola’s appointment makes him ConocoPhillips’ 14th director, of which 12 are independent. While in the role, he will serve on multiple committees, namely the Human Resources and Compensation Committee and the Audit and Finance Committee of the ConocoPhillips board.
