Joshua Hoyos has been named to fill ABC News’ previously vacant New York Bureau Chief position.

The longtime ABC News assignment reporter has been with the network for over a decade. 

He confirmed the news on his Twitter account, stating, “I stand on the shoulders of so many.”

Hoyos will report to ABC News' Vice President of Newsgathering Michael Kreisel, who praised Hoyos for his experience in the edit room, the field and on the desk.  

In his new role, Hoyos will be in charge of managing the ABC News teams based in the Eastern half of the United States, excluding those located in Washington, D.C.

“He’ll drive day-to-day coverage and lead our teams of correspondents, reporters and producers through breaking news, while also working collaboratively with editorial partners across ABC News’ programs and platforms—to help make decisions about which stories we should cover and who will work on them,” said Kreisel. 

Hoyos joined ABC News in May 2012 as an intern for “Good Morning America” and has since risen through the ranks, working in different areas and newscasts across the news division, most prominently as assignment editor for over seven years.

His most recent role before his latest promotion as bureau chief was as an assignment manager on the assignment desk.

Throughout his decade-long stint at ABC News, Hoyos has worked on some of the nation’s most significant breaking news stories, including the Pulse nightclub massacre in 2016, Hurricane Maria and its devastating aftermath across Puerto Rico, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the national racial reckoning. 

Hoyos is a graduate of Rutgers University - Newark, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies, and political science with a concentration in global politics.
