On April 12, the Community College of Philadelphia will be hosting another installment of their virtual ‘Enough is Enough’ discussion / teach-in sessions.

The Enough is Enough series launched in the Summer of 2020 in response to political upheaval and racial justice calls following the police murder of George Floyd.

The discussion will touch on voter suppression, redistricting, and gerrymandering in relation to confronting their effects.

In response to the events of 2020, the series hopes to address how gerrymandering affects residents' lives.

Gerrymandering is a redistricting tactic often used by parties in power to maintain elected office through the manipulation of voting district boundaries every 10 years. The policies these voting practices maintain, affect everything from gun control legislation, health care, and the quality of life of children.

The CCP discussion — titled ‘Understanding Redistricting & Gerrymandering’ — will be moderated by Laura Coates.

Coates is an attorney, CNN senior legal analyst, and author of Just Pursuit: A Black Prosecutor's Fight for Fairness.

Panelists for the discussion include Gary Mullin (associate professor of Political Science at CCP), City Commissioner  Omar Sabir, Carol Kuniholm (Fair Districts PA co-founder, chair), and Ricardo Almodovar (Campus Vote Project, Pennsylvania state coordinator).

Understanding Redistricting & Gerrymandering will offer lessons on gerrymandering, the history of American redistricting and its overall effects.

The discussion from CCP will take place on April 12 at 11 a.m. via Zoom. Those interested may RSVP by emailing: [email protected].
