After all no one, not even cartoonish characters such as Trump and Kim Jong-un are stupid enough to risk a nuclear conflagration. In fact, the two leaders with the world’s worst haircuts also share a penchant for macho posturing and tough talk which, as has become obvious in Trump’s case, are seldom backed by effective action.

True, rockets were launched on Syria and a gigantic explosive device was dropped on Afghanistan, both to dubious effect aside from the usual grandiose proclamations of success by the reality show former personality. Yet, at the same time, the Mar-a-Lago inhabitant shamelessly flip-flopped on his demagogic campaign promises about China (no longer a currency manipulator), NATO (no longer obsolete), Russia (Putin is no longer his best friend), the border wall (Mexico won’t pay for his monument to racism). 

Domestically, no matter his boasting and self-aggrandizement, Trump’s first three months in office have been an abject failure. His much-touted repeal of Obamacare mercifully crashed in flames, and his grandiose plan to reform the nation’s tax code (to make the rich richer and the poor poorer) has been pushed to the back burner. The reason? Massive popular protests demanding for the flagrantly dishonest White House occupant to release his own tax returns. Add to this, the congressional Democrats’ decision not to contemplate any fiscal reform if the president doesn’t come clean about his taxes.

Not surprisingly, the people’s confidence in Trump’s has dropped faster than the MOAB on Afghanistan, according to the latest national Gallup Poll. His image as a tough-guy who keeps his promises has shrunk since early February from 62% to 45% by the first week in April.

"The public is also less likely to see him as a 'strong and decisive leader,' as someone who 'can bring about the changes this country needs' and is 'honest and trustworthy,'" Gallup found.

Obviously, the liar-in-chief’s non-stop stream of “alternative facts” and his constant empty boasting and chest thumping are becoming tiresome to the American people. 

Yet, true to his prejudices and bigotry, there is one issue in which the notoriously unprincipled Trump has not flip-flopped: immigration. As it was to be expected, him and his attack dog, attorney general, Jeff Session, a little man big only on hatred and racism, have reneged on their promise to deport only “bad hombres.”

 Arrests have gone up 33% so far this year as compared to last year, according to the Washington Post. As if further proof of Trump’s mendacity and racism was needed, the number of people with no criminal record among those arrested has doubled.

So far Trump’s presidency can claim only one undisputable success: spreading panic among immigrant families that now find themselves in constant danger of being torn apart by the bigotry and stupidity of a president willing to harm the economy, and sacrifice the nation’s core values of justice and compassion on the altar of ignorance and racism.

But not only panic is spreading, resistance is also growing by leaps and bounds.

And that’s a very good thing.
