New NBC10/Telemundo62 meteorologist tabbed as emcee for 2022 AL DÍA Leaders in STEM
Marvin Gomez of NBC 10/Telemundo 62 will do the official hosting honors at AL DÍA inaugural event.
AL DÍA is excited to announce that Marvin Gomez of NBC 10/Telemundo 62 will serve as emcee of the inaugural AL DÍA Leaders in STEM event.
Gomez was recently installed as one of two new meteorologists at the station, making his debut on Monday, July 18. You can find him during weekday forecasts at 11 a.m. and weekend evenings on NBC10.
A bilingual meteorologist originally from Guatemala, Gomez migrated with his family to the United States when he was 9 years old. He lived in Chicago for most of his life, earning his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois.
He also holds a Weather Forecasting Certificate from Penn State University, and an additional bachelor’s degree in Geosciences from Mississippi State University.
Gomez comes to Philadelphia by way of State College, Pennsylvania, where he worked as a meteorologist at Accuweather. While there, he became the first Latino Central American meteorologist on an English language network.

Over the course of his career, Gomez has gained experience covering all types of severe weather across the country. However, it’s hurricane season that is very important to him. Some of the most prominent hurricanes he has covered include Ida, Eta, Iota, Matthew, Florence, Laura, Maria and Michael.
Gomez’s passions are matched by the passionate work of the organizations that will be honored at the first-ever AL DÍA Leaders in STEM.
Eight organizations — Girls Inc., GSK, PECO, Philadelphia Futures, Comcast, SHPE, Coded by Kids, and Math Corps. — will be honored for their contributions toward increasing diversity and representation in the STEM fields across the region.
Given the statistics of how underrepresented the Hispanic and Black populations are within the STEM fields, in connection to the increased diversity of our nation, the increase of that representation is paramount.
This is what makes the work being done by these organizations so critical, providing a path for young individuals and students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to find their ways into the valuable fields.
The 2022 AL DÍA Leaders in STEM is set to take place Wednesday, Aug. 10 at the Pyramid Club from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. To learn more or purchase tickets to this first-ever inaugural event, click here.
