Former state rep. J.P. Miranda was sentenced this Thursday to five years of probation after pleading guilty of having hired a ghost employee for his North Philly office, while secretly paying his sister.

Miranda’s sister, Michelle Wilson, was sentenced to two years of probation, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.

Timothy Duckett testified that Miranda hired him but told him he didn’t have to go to work, and asked him to give money to his sister.

Miranda was elected for the 197th Legislative District in 2012. The accusations against him came up as he was up for reelection, which caused him to be defeated in the primaries.
