City releases video simulation of Pope security zone
Bike barriers, magnetometers and jumbotrons.
On Thursday, Mayor Michael Nutter and Secret Service officials showed video of this 3-D simulation of security zones during the papal visit.
The Secret Service said it will not make these simulated videos available to the public at this time, but it did provide a clearer image of what the security parameters will look like. Each of the security screening checkpoints around both the Ben Franklin Parkway and Independence mall with feature 10 to 14 magnetometers, allowing visitors to pass into the security area in larger numbers.
All of the magnetometers can readily facilitate persons with disabilities, Mayor Nutter confirmed. The 3-D rendering, provided by the Secret Service, also shows that bike rails will be used as the primary means of crowd control in the Francis Festival Grounds (formerly known as the "traffic box") in between the two security zones.
