The inaugural AL DÍA 40 Under Forty event will be a showcase of the most diverse and impactful young professionals in various fields of work across the Philadelphia region.

At the virtual event, taking place August 20, 2020, Jessica Garcia, 30, will be one of the 40 honorees. She is an entrepreneur, and CEO & Founder of Tozuda, LLC

As part of the lead-up to the event, AL DÍA asked each of the 40 honorees the same three questions and collected their responses.

Here are Jessica Garcia’s responses:

What is the biggest challenge in your professional journey?

Our biggest challenge was in 2017 when we were developing an earlier prototype design for our head impact indicator. After several years of R&D, it was surpassing all of our expectations in the laboratory. We then decided to do our first field test. However, the devices failed unexpectedly. This would have been the time to quit. We instead decided to hit the drawing board again which allowed us to solve the issue and end up with an even better solution!.

What's your proudest achievement in your career?

My proudest achievement in my career was being issued my first patent for our technology. Seeing my idea finally become a reality has been a whirlwind experience with lots of highs and lows. Becoming an inventor made me realize that anything is possible and we can really make the changes we want to see in the world with hard work and creativity.

Beyond corporate D&I efforts, what will make true inclusivity happen?

I believe true inclusivity happens with empathy. With a desire to understand another person’s perspective, we can learn, grow, and respect both our commonalities and differences. I believe there is absolute strength and beauty in diversity of thoughts and backgrounds.  I believe it is  necessary to foster inclusivity in your personal and professional life and to intervene when there are obstacles or actions hindering it.
