The inaugural AL DÍA 40 Under Forty event will be a showcase of the most diverse and impactful young professionals in various fields of work across the Philadelphia region.

At the virtual event, taking place August 20, 2020, Amy Eusebio, 34, will be one of the 40 honorees. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. 

As part of the lead-up to the event, AL DÍA asked each of the 40 honorees the same three questions and collected their responses. 

Here are Amy Eusebio’s responses:

In hierarchical structures, people with decision making authority are distant from community members who access services. I've had to learn how to efficiently gather the strengths and needs of people impacted by a particular issue and then determine best strategy to relay this to people in positions of authority so they maintain that perspective at the center of their decision making. As a servant leader and an advocate I learned the skill of managing up to be successful.

I'm most proud of the various new initiatives and programs I've launched and watching them flourish. In launching new programs, people often underestimate the importance of human resources, people power. I've been very successful at recruiting, cultivating and supporting teams of highly skilled and passionate people to get projects completed and done well. I take time to learn each person's strengths and place them on the right aspect of the project to maximize success for the individual and the team.

True inclusivity can only happen when we teach everyone accurate history and commit to equity and justice. We must choose vulnerability, acknowledge personal privilege and have the courage to deliberately disassemble oppressive systems that keep black, brown and poor people in the margins. We must honestly acknowledge the ways we all maintain white supremacy culture and promote anti-black racism then work hard to unlearn our conditioning and untangle them from our systems.
