The healthcare and medical professions are some of the most important professions in the world.

That is due to the fact that people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, ethnicities and religions will at some point in their lives need to visit a doctor’s office or see a medical professional.

This reality showcases why it’s just as important to have medical professions in healthcare institutions who are diverse and can relate to their patients.

While the cost of care is one of the biggest reasons many people may decide not to visit a doctor, another big reason is an inability to effectively communicate with those they go to.

With Spanish as the second-most common language and the Hispanic community comprising the second largest ethnic group in the United States, the need for Hispanic medical professionals is dire.

According to an article in The Washington Post, since 1978, there has been just a four-percentage-point increase in the proportion of Hispanic medical school graduates, despite the Hispanic population growing more rapidly during the same time period.

The 2020 AL DÍA Top Doctors Forum & Reception will present a grand opportunity to do two things: to celebrate the top Hispanic doctors in the region and to also celebrate the diversity currently in the field.

The second annual event will see four of the region’s top Hispanic doctors be honored with an AL DÍA Top Doctors award for their work in enriching diversity in the field, while also advancing the causes of health and medicine for their patients.

Having diversity and inclusion in the medical and health care professions can go a long way towards addressing the most critical needs of the diverse communities being served. This event will go towards helping advance that mission by relaying some of the resources that are available for diverse individuals to receive the care they need.

Last year, the event provided a platform for Hispanic medical and health professions to talk about their journey into the field, as well the grand importance of serving as a role model to the next generation of diverse medical professionals who are aspiring to one day enter into health or medicine.

The 2020 AL DIA Top Doctors Forum & Reception will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020 in the Lincoln Memorial Room at the Union League of Philadelphia from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. To purchase tickets to the event, click here.
