Frida Kahlo's has become a Latin American icon for a number of reasons: for challenging the status quo with her art and personality, for her proud Mexican identity, and her connection to feminism.
Once again, honoring that legacy, the iconic artist will be brought back to the screen, but this time, as part of an official show of her life being developed by the Frida Kahlo Corporation along with CIC Media.
The show will be a drama that closely follows the life of the famous artist and will allow viewers to explore her artistic work, her legacy, and the era in which she lived.
To produce the show, its team will be carefully chosen. At the moment, it is known that Venezuelan screenwriter and director Joel Novoa and Marilú Godínez will be in charge of developing the plot, and Venezuelan composer and singer Carlos Baute will also be producer and composer of the show's soundtrack.
"The idea is to talk about what the books don't talk about... The subtext behind each painting, the richness of the Mexican 20th century and the revolution. Themes that are incredibly relevant in this unprecedented moment," Novoa and Godinez told Deadline.
According to Carlos Dorado of the Frida Kahlo Corporation, they are always looking for talented people who know how to highlight the life of an icon like Frida Kahlo, and above all, who have the sensitivity to approach a project as important and transcendental as the creation of a TV show about the artist's life.
It is estimated that the team will be able to begin production of the show during the second half of 2021.
One studio has already shown interest and the project is expected to be presented to the market in February.
Expectations are high from the team behind the production, to knowing who will be working on all aspects of the show. Fans of the revolutionary painter expect consistency with this new portrayal of Frida.
