Hispanic Society Museum and Library reopen
The institution announced for its first phase a robust programming and exhibition calendar for 2023.
In 2023, the Hispanic Society Museum and Library will recognize great Spanish artists with a series of exhibitions, lectures, concerts and receptions. The Joaquín Sorolla Centennial, Jesús Rafael Soto Centennial and Pablo Picasso Semi Centennial will also be celebrated.
"This centennial year and the reopening of the museum mark a defining moment in the Hispanic Society's centennial history, bringing together some of the Hispanic world's most important creative voices and introducing them to our culture today," said Guillaume Kientz, CEO of the Hispanic Society Museum and Library, in a statement.
In addition to the planned events, the Hispanic Society Museum and Library is engaged in the most ambitious capital project in its history with the modernization of its three landmark buildings and the restoration of Audubon Terrace to maximize the organization's potential, enable it to better serve the surrounding community and increase the its capacity to host partnerships and collaborations with local and international partners.

"We are excited to introduce the museum to a new generation of art enthusiasts and to welcome the community back through our doors to enjoy an incredible roster of programming," said Kientz.
Under his leadership, the HSM&L will reopen its Main Courtyard, Upper Terrace and the iconic Sorolla Gallery, Vision of Spain (1912-1919) in March 2023 as part of the Sorolla Centennial commemoration. The Sorolla Gallery houses 14 monumental paintings dedicated to Spain in which visitors are surrounded by the people, costumes and traditions of various regions of the country.
New additions to programming
In addition to the renovation, the Hispanic Society Museum and Library will present an additional series of programming and exhibitions throughout the year.
The new works that will be part of the institution are "Anatomy of a Fresco: Drawings by José Clemente Orozco from the Wornick Collection" (June 22-October 1), "In Search of Juan de Pareja: From Arturo Schomburg to Jas Knight" (April 3-July 16), and "Marta Chilindron's Orange Cube" (June-October).
