Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pinocchio' wins a 2023 BAFTA for Best Animated Film
The win streak of Del Toro's latest animated film continues.
The BAFTA Awards happened this past Sunday, Feb. 19, as the British Film Academy gave out its most prestigious awards in film. One of the winners — for Best Animated Film — was Guillermo Del Toro, for his latest animated rendition of Pinocchio.
Upon receiving the award, the Mexican director thanked Netflix for trusting in his story and bringing it to everyone's screens. Del Toro also said that the animation is a style that has been created for all audiences, not just children.
"I would like to add that I am very grateful to BAFTA for allowing us to be here, because animation is not something for children. It's an art medium, for everyone. It should be in this conversation," said the director.

Del Toro competed against Marcel the Shell With Shoes On from director Dean Fleischer Camp, Joel Crawford's Puss in Boots 2 and Red from Canada's Domee Shi.
Pinocchio was also nominated in the Best Production Design and Best Score categories at the 2023 BAFTAs.
Del Toro's film is a reinterpretation of the classic tale that chronicles the adventures of a wooden doll that comes to life.
With the new award, Del Toro's film continues to rise as one of the favorites to win the Oscar on March 12, as it also recently won at the Golden Globes for Best Animated Feature.
