La Cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta is a story of Mexican identity where migration, race and discrimination are explored.

Made in Mexico and produced by Dynamo and Amazon Studios, the television production is set on the new border between Mexico and the United States in the year 1851, during a period driven by greed, anger and xenophobia, amid a war surrounding the California Gold Rush.

The production, which presents a plot of heroes and anti-heroes, follows the adventures of Joaquín Murrieta, a legendary figure also known as the Mexican Robin Hood (character played by Mexican actor Juan Manuel Bernal, known for his work in Monarca and Obediencia Perfecta), and Joaquín Carrillo, (a character played Alejandro Speitzer, known for his roles in Dark Desire, Someone Has to Die).

The two find themselves in the middle of a violent misunderstanding and eventually join forces to face a common enemy, Harry Love, played by actor Steve Wilcox (S.O.Z.: Soldiers or Zombies, Sons of Anarchy, The X-Files).

The cast of La Cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta is filled out by Yoshira Escárrega as Damace, Emiliano Zurita as Casey and newcomer Becky Zhu Wu as Adela Cheng.

The show, created by Mauricio Leiva-Cock (Ruido Capital, Frontera Verde, Distrito Salvaje) and Diego Ramírez Schrempp (Falco, Frontera Verde, Narcos), was produced by Juliana Flórez Luna (Frontera Verde, American Made, La Cara Oculta , Narcos) and directed by Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz (El Candidato, Luis Miguel, La Serie) and David Pablos (El baile de los 41, Las Elegidas).

“For a long time we wanted to make a western told from our Latin American perspective, and the fact that Amazon Prime Video has bet on this series and has joined us in this adventure is a dream come true,” said Diego Ramírez Schrempp of Dynamo and Mauricio Leiva-Cock from Fidelio.

"La Cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta is the creation of a myth from different points of view, in a newly-created border after the war between Mexico and the United States. It is a series with a modern twist on its own language that will surprise and captivate not only fans of the genre, but also a much broader audience," they continued.

The new eight-episode action-adventure story will premiere in 240 countries around the world on Prime Video on Feb. 17, 2023.
