The friendship between María Félix and Frida Kahlo showcased in new TV series
The bioseries about the Mexican diva, María de los Ángeles Félix Güereña, reveals the close friendship that linked her to Frida Kahlo.
"I am a woman with a man's heart, I have my pants on better than many of them," says Mexican actress Sandra Echeverría, who gives life to renowned actress María Félix in the new biographical series, María Felix: La Doña.
The series recounts the life and work of a woman considered a revolutionary icon in the world of entertainment in Mexico.
Echeverría will play María Félix in adulthood, while Ximena Romo will play the artist in her youth, and Abril Vergara, in her childhood.
“Suddenly when people come to tell me: What a responsibility! And I say: No! What an opportunity! It is a gift for me, the more I investigated it, the more fascinating it seemed to me, I am in love and obsessed with it,” said Echeverría in conversation with HOLA TV.

Once the young Mexican knew she was playing the character, she spent between four and five months looking into the personality of María Félix.
“I began to see 47 films and documentaries about her, her biographies, I began to read books, and listen to her voice, and I had saved links to her voice, which was very important to me, because she is also a character, which was evolving. She did not speak the same at 30 as she spoke at 80 years old and for me it was important to recreate that voice of the 30s because in the 80s we know her well, even though they did not speak the same on camera as behind," she added.
The series portrays the childhood of María Félix, her time in a beauty contest, her wedding to her first husband, and foray into the world of acting thanks to a stranger who approached her on the street. The series also recounts the friendship that united the actress with the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, as can be seen in the trailer.
This is the first bioseries to be produced about María de los Ángeles Félix Güereña, who was one of the icons of the golden cinema in Mexico. She was the daughter of a father of Indigenous Yaqui descent and a mother of Spanish descent. She was born in Sonora on April 8, 1914, and became known for her talent, and fearless character. She died on her 88th birthday on April 8, 2002.
The series María Félix. La Doña, which will air eight episodes, will premiere on July 21 on VIX+, TelevisaUnivisión's streaming platform.
