The first bioseries about Mexican diva María Félix
Mexican actresses Sandra Echeverría, Abril Vergara and Ximena Romo will play María Félix in a bioseries that has started shooting.
The bioseries about the life of Mexican cinema icon María Félix was born several years ago and the shooting began in 2022, TelevisaUnivisión said in a statement.
Félix, also known as 'La Doña' or 'María Bonita,' will be played by three different Mexican actresses at different stages of her life: Sandra Echeverría, Abril Vergara and Ximena Romo. Besides them, Guillermo García Cantú, Ana Bertha Espín, Josh Gutiérrez, Ximena Ayala, Markin López, Úrsula Pruneda, Ramon Medina and Helena Rojo are also part of the cast.
Mafer Suárez will be the director of the still-unnamed series and the script has been written by Larissa Andrade, Tania Tinajero and Gabriela Rodríguez and Alejandro Gerber. Carmen Armendáriz is in charge of production, who met Félix when she was a child.
“She was my father — the actor Pedro Armendáriz — close friend, and that friendship allowed me to meet María. And I say this because it is clear to me that ‘La Doña’ was another person. She was a woman who liked my hair, caressed my cheek and talked a lot,” Armendáriz said in an interview.
She said that bringing the figure of María Félix — and everything she has done throughout her career — to the small screen is a challenge.

"Portraying the life of an emblematic figure of Mexico and the world, a woman ahead of her time who broke stereotypes is a huge challenge and responsibility," she added.
The bioseries, which is produced by ViX+ Originals — TelevisaUnivision's streaming platform — will seek to portray all the facets of 'María Bonita': as a mother, wife, daughter, and sister, and as a woman who has faced pain and suffering.
“We will make a film about a woman who was ahead of her time, who did not leave anyone behind; an empowered woman. Her story is still valid today, she continues to inspire and empower women generation after generation," Armendáriz said.
This is the first bioseries to be produced about María de los Ángeles Félix Güereña, who in her lifetime was one of the icons of the golden age of cinema in Mexico. She was the daughter of a father of Indigenous Yaqui descent and a mother of Spanish descent. She was born in Sonora on April 8, 1914, and became known not only for her talent, but also for her intrepid and overwhelming character. She died on her 88th birthday on April 8, 2002.
